The Asian Studies program and the Chinese program will host a Lunar New Year cooking night, featuring rice cake making. Rice cakes, known as nián gāo (年糕) in Chinese and tteok in Korean, are an essential Lunar New Year food, symbolizing prosperity, growth and higher income in the coming year. These sticky, sweet or savory cakes are traditionally eaten to wish for a “higher year,” as nián gāo sounds like “year higher” in Chinese. Join us to learn, taste and share new year wishes together.
